Analysis review

The information I was able to obtain has given be a better understanding on what the target audience wants in a magazine, for example, during the survey 60% said that the most important feature on a magazine front cover is the artist, for me this means that the way I present the artist for my magazine is the most important thing. The most useful information I obtained was the focus group, this made me understand what my target audience like and dislike on a magazine cover and what is appropriate for a death metal magazine cover, unlike the survey, the focus group commented on the importance of the color scheme.

Focus group - Death metal magazine covers

A piece of audience feedback was a focus group, they discussed the front cover for two metal magazines, I did this on the 5th of January.

The focus group was very helpful because they discussed relevant points, for example, they said which cover they preferred, which was the cover on the right, they said the colors were effective. I will think about these comments when creating my magazine cover.

Audience research - Survey

This is a video based on the survey i conducted asking some teenagers within my target audience questions, this made me understand what a main attraction in a music magazine is to them and what they expect to see on a death metal magazine.

Introduction to Death Metal

Market research

Above I have taken a screenshot for a google image search of "Death metal magazine" I did this so that I could get a better understanding of what the magazines within this genre look like. From this image search I have learnt a lot about the layout, color schemes and features included of a death metal magazine. What I noticed was, the color schemes on all the magazines, were dark colors , like, black, red and dark blue, orange and white have been used in many of them, causing these covers to stand out. This colors also relate to the magazines theme of death metal, as death metal as a genre is very dark and scary, the colors black and red suit it very well, the orange used also relates to the theme as it represents fire, which can also relate to hell which is a prominent theme in many death metal songs. The majority of the front covers have more than one artist on the front as death metal mostly involves bands instead of solo artists. For all the front covers the artists angle of gaze is to the camera, their facial expressions are all aggressive too, the combination of the angle of gaze and facial expression go well with the magazines genre as it may bring fear to the reader. What I also noticed about the magazine covers was that they were often covered in a lot of distracting writing, giving the magazine a cluttered look, this is also related to the genre because death metal songs are cluttered with many different vocals, sounds and instruments at once.
